Lucky first came to our attention in October of 1997 when Debbie Brown asked us to stable two of her horses - one a pathetic little pony named Lucky. The sad story was that this tiny 10 hand pony had been owned by a camp in Tampa. Someone there had jammed a stick into her neck and left eye, leaving a tender lump and causing her to lose her eye. She had also foundered, a serious hoof condition that can lead to fatal lameness. The pony was finally rescued by the Humane Society and found her way to Debbie, who was able to start the rehabilitation process. When Lucky arrived at Horses N Heroes she could hardly hobble around. When Debbie asked us to find a good home for her, we knew she had already found it. Dr. Ben Schacter delivered the good news that Lucky's founder could be treated with corrective shoeing and medication. Between Ed Dole's shoeing, bute, Equine Senior and lots of TLC, Lucky began to show improvement. Lucky is now a fixture at Horses N Heroes. She shows great interest in the visitors to the barn, especially anyone with a treat for her. She patrols the property, sneaks into unoccupied stalls and breaks into coolers and the trash cans at any opportunity. Please call Horses N Heroes at (352) 629-5280 to plan a visit with us. You will be greeted by a new and improved Lucky, who is always eager to greet visitors (especially ones with treats!). |
